this is my first experiment sampling the ensemble strings, the staccato section and layering some things maded by Yingchun soul, the idea is to have a alternative for Papelmedia Strings 1 preset, maybe this is what are you looking for in the public domain way, this is thinked forgrabbing this and incorporing to your general midi soundfont without worries and even more, without using much space in your soundfont for adding more instruments
so check this out, sounds differen...
this is a final edit of the master strings, but now contains "Versilian Strings" as Marcato String Ensemble (Strings 1) and "Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra" as Legato Strings Ensemble (Strings 2) for a orchestra based samples
at least sounds almost credible and not like a simple pcm synth in less than 25 MB compared to the Heavy sized "Papelmedia Strings" or Heavien Strings

just check what happens if you simply add simple things like
a staccato to a marcato or melodic bowed sound
a super slow reverbed strings on a arco strings or simmple sustain
a reverby thing on a tremulator
a accompaiment pizzicato to a pizzicato sound
used the classic soundfont of Emu strings
